When does Europe’s top league season start?
Supercup matches will be played in England, France and Germany as early as this weekend, with the championships kicking off a week later.
English Premier League
On Saturday 30 July, Liverpool and Manchester City will face off in the Super Cup in England. The Reds are holders of the FA Cup, while the Citizens are the national champions. For the first time since 2012 the Super Cup match will be held outside of Wembley Stadium due to the Women’s Euro 2022 final. So the Super Cup match will be played at King Power in Leicester.
If they win, Liverpool will win their 16th Super Cup trophy in England. Manchester United are the most titled side (21). By the way, three years ago, Liverpool and Man City met in the FA Super Cup. Then, in the penalty shoot-out the team from Manchester turned out stronger.
As for the English league, it will be back in action on August 5 with the Crystal Palace v Arsenal derby. Liverpool are also set to take on Fulham in the first leg, Manchester United take on Brighton, Tottenham face Southampton, while Chelsea and Manchester City travel to Everton and West Ham.

The Spanish Supercup has been played as a Final Four since the 2019/2020 season. This season, Real Madrid CF, Valencia, Betis and Barcelona will be competing for it. The first leg of the competition will be in January 2023. The Spanish Championship kicks off on 12 August with a clash between Osasuna and Sevilla. In the first round, FC Barcelona will take Rayo Vallecano, Real Madrid will play away with Almeria and Atletico Madrid will take on Getafe.

“RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich will play Germany in the Supercup on 30 July. This will be Domenico Tedesco’s first appearance in the competition. In the 2021/2022 season, they beat Freiburg to win the German Cup in the final. The fixture takes place at Leipzig’s home stadium.
